His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso is Tibet's spiritual leader and the senior most figure in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. His Holiness was born in Amdo, in the north-east of Tibet in 1935. He left Tibet in 1959 following the Chinese invasion which began some years earlier. Since then, His Holiness has resided in Dharamsala, India, the site of the Tibetan government-in-exile.
