A Praise to the Twenty-One Tārās

ༀ། རྒྱལ་བ་ཀུན་གྱི་སྤྱན་སྔར་ཐུགས་བསྐྱེད་རྒྱལ་བའི་ཡུམ་གྱུར་མ་ལུས་རྒྱལ་བའི་ཕྲིན་ལས་ཀུན་སྒྲུབ་མ། །

om, gyelwa kün gyi chengar tukyé gyelwé yum gyur malü gyelwé trinlé kün drupma

Oṃ! You first formed the resolve to awaken before the victorious ones—you, their noble mother, fulfiller of their awakened activities.

མྱུར་མ་དཔའ་མོ་དབྱངས་ཅན་མ་དང་བསོད་ནམས་མཆོག་གཏེར་རྣམ་རྒྱལ་རིགས་བྱེད་མ་དང་འཇིགས་བྱེད་མ། །

nyurma pamo yangchenma dang sönam chokter namgyel rikchema dang jikchema

O swift and courageous heroine—Sarasvatī¹, Treasury of Merit², All-Victorious³, Kurukullā⁴, Yakṣa Princess⁵,

གཞན་གྱིས་མི་ཐུབ་གཞན་ལས་རྒྱལ་དང་སེང་ལྡེང་ནགས་ཀྱི་སྒྲོལ་མ་འཇིག་རྟེན་གསུམ་རྒྱལ་ནོར་སྟེར་མ། །

zhen gyi mitup zhen lé gyel dang sengdeng naki drölma jikten sum gyel norterma

Invincible⁶, Conqueror⁷, Tārā of the Teak Forest⁸, Queen of the Three Realms⁹, Bestower of Wealth¹⁰,

བཀྲ་ཤིས་དོན་བྱེད་དགྲ་དཔུང་འཇོམས་མ་ཁྲོ་གཉེར་ཅན་མཛད་རབ་ཞི་མ་དང་འབར་བའི་འོད་ཅན་མ། །

trashi dönché drapung joma tronyer chen dzé rap zhima dang barwé öchenma

Granter of Auspiciousness, Benevolent Heroine, Vanquisher of Enemy Troops¹¹, Frowning Lady¹², Universal Pacifier¹³, Lady of Blazing Light,

དཔག་མེད་གནོན་མ་རྨ་བྱ་ཆེན་མོ་མི་ཕམ་རྒྱལ་མོ་རི་ཁྲོད་མ་དང་འོད་ཟེར་ཅན་མར་འདུད། །

pakmé nönma maja chenmo mipam gyelmo ritröma dang özer chenmar dü

Boundless Subduer¹⁴, Great Peacock Lady¹⁵, Indomitable Queen¹⁶, Hermit Lady¹⁷, Goddess of Light Rays¹⁸, obeisance to you!

འགྲོ་ཀུན་སྲིད་པའི་མཚོ་ལས་སྒྲོལ་ཕྱིར་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཐོབ་འདོད་བདག་ཀྱང་ཁྱེད་ལ་རེའོ་རྗེ་བཙུན་མ། །

drokün sipé tso lé dröl chir jangchup top dö dak kyang khyé la ré’o jetsünma

In you, Noble Tārā, I place my hopes to reach awakening, that I may free all beings from the ocean of samsara!

སློབ་དཔོན་ཙནྡྲ་གོ་མིའི་གསུངས་ཡིན་པས་བསྟན་ཆོས་ནས་བྱུང་ངོ༌། །

ༀ་ཏཱ་རེ་ཏུཏྟ་རེ་ཏུ་རེ་སྭཱཧཱ། །

om taré tutaré turé soha

oṃ tāre tuttare ture svāhā

སེང་གེ་གླང་ཆེན་མེ་སྦྲུལ་ཆོམ་རྐུན་དང༌། །

sengé langchen mé drül chomkün dang

Your wisdom form is just like cooling moon beams,

ལྕགས་སྒྲོག་རྒྱ་མཚོ་ཤ་ཟའི་འཇིགས་པ་རྣམས། །

chakdrok gyamtso shazé jikpa nam

quelling our fears of lions, elephants, fire, snakes, and thieves,

ཞི་མཛད་ཟླ་བའི་འོད་ལྟར་བསིལ་བའི་སྐུ། །

zhi dzé dawé ötar silwé ku

of imprisonment, oceans, flesh-eaters, and all else.

རྗེ་བཙུན་སྒྲོལ་མ་ཡུམ་ལ་ཕྱག་འཚལ་བསྟོད། །

jetsün drölma yum la chaktsel tö

Noble Mother Tārā, to you I offer homage and praise!

རྒྱ་གར་གྱི་པཎྜི་ཏ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་ཐུགས་དམ་རྒྱུན་ཁྱེར་གྱི་གསོལ་འདེབས་བྱིན་རླབས་མྱུར་མགྱོགས་མ་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་འདི་ནི་བསྟན་འགྱུར་ནས་ཁོལ་དུ་ཕྱུང་བ་བྱིན་རླབས་མྱུར། ཚར་བརྒྱ་སྟོང་ཁྲི་འབུམ་སོགས་གྲངས་བསགས་པ་ལ་ཉེ་བར་མཁོའོ།། །།

This, the daily heart supplication of the Indian panditas, entitled Swift Blessings, is extracted from the Collected Translated Treatises (Tengyur), and it grants blessings quickly. One should accumulate one hundred, one thousand, ten thousand, one hundred thousand, etc. recitations of it.

17. ↑ The manifestation of Tārā who dispels infectious diseases, who is white with a tinge of yellow.
18. ↑ The manifestation of Tārā who ransoms the life force of the sick.
