Awakening from the Sleep of Ignorance
from A Shower of Precious Blessings
གུ་རུ་པདྨ་དཔའ་བོ་མཁའ་འགྲོའི་ཚོགས་དང་བཅས་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་སྐུ་གར་སྟབས། གསུང་བརྡ་སྐད་སྔགས་ཀྱི་གླུ་དབྱངས། ཐུགས་ཀྱི་དགོངས་པ་རིག་པ་རང་ཤར་གྱི་ངོ་བོ་བདག་ལ་གཏད་དེ་ཌཱ་དྲིལ་གྱི་སྒྲ་དང་བཅས་ཏེ་ཟིལ་ཆེན་པོས་མདུན་གྱི་ནམ་མཁར་བྱོན་པར་བསམ་ལ།

The Lotus Guru and the entire gathering of spiritual heroes and ḍākinīs, accompanied by the sound of ḍāmarus and bells, arrive with great splendor in the sky before me. With their bodies dancing and their speech melodiously resounding with symbolic language and mantra, they direct their awareness, the essence of self-arising wisdom, toward me.
དགོངས་པ་ཀློང་ཡངས་ཆོས་སྐུའི་ཕོ་བྲང་འོག་མིན་གྱི་གནས་ནས། །
gongpa long yang chökü podrang okmin gyi né né
From within dharmakāya’s wisdom expanse, the Unexcelled Palace,
བདེ་ཆེན་ཡེ་ཤེས་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་རྫོགས་སྐུ་རིག་འཛིན་གྱི་རྒྱལ་པོ། །
dechen yeshé longchö dzok ku rigdzin gyi gyelpo
appears the sambhogakāya vidyādhara king, pristine awareness of great bliss,
གྲུབ་ཐོབ་དཔའ་བོ་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་གཙོ་བོ་ཨོ་རྒྱན་གྱི་སློབ་དཔོན། །
druptop pawo gyamtsö tsowo orgyen gyi loppön
chief of the ocean of accomplished heroes, Master of Uḍḍiyāna,
དྲིན་ཆེན་མ་ཧཱ་གུ་རུ་པདྨ་ཐོད་ཕྲེང་གི་མཚན་འཆང་། །
drinchen maha guru pema tötreng gi tsen chang
the gracious mahāaguru, renowned as Lotus Skull Garland,
ལེགས་ཉེས་སྟངས་འཛིན་ཡེ་ཤེས་ལས་གྲུབ་མཁའ་འགྲོ་ཡི་ཚོགས་དང་། །
leknyé tangdzin yeshé lé drup khandro yi tsok dang
along with his assembly of wisdom ḍākinīs, overseers of good and bad.
འཁོར་བཅས་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་བརྩེ་བས་སྐལ་ལྡན་བདག་ཅག་གི་མདུན་དུ། །
khor ché tukjé tsewé kelden dakchak gi dündu
Come with all your retinues! Bring compassion and love for us fortunate ones!
མ་རིག་གཏི་མུག་ཐོས་བསམ་བསྒོམ་པའི་བར་ཆད་རྣམས་བསལ་ཕྱིར། །
marik timuk tö sam gompé barché nam sel chir
Come to dispel our ignorance and stupidity, to dispel all our obstacles to study, reflection, and meditation!
སྐུ་གསུང་ཐུགས་ཀྱི་བཀོད་པ་ངོ་མཚར་དུ་མ་དང་བཅས་ཏེ། །
ku sung tuk kyi köpa ngotsar duma dang ché té
Come in your wondrous array of awakened body, speech, and mind!
མྱུར་བ་ཉིད་དུ་རྔ་ཡབ་གླིང་ནས་ད་ལྟ་རང་བྱོན་ལ། །
nyurwa nyi du ngayap ling né data rang jön la
Come! Swiftly come from the Cāmara continent
འཐིབས་པོའི་སྦུབས་འདི་ཡེ་ཤེས་རལ་གྲི་འབར་བ་ཡིས་བཀྲལ་ནས། །
tippö bup di yeshé reldri barwa yi trel né
and slice open this dark cocoon with your blazing swords of wakefulness!
ཤེས་རབ་བློ་གྲོས་མཐའ་ཡས་རྣམ་བཀྲ་པདྨ་ཡི་འདབ་བཞད། །
sherap lodrö tayé namtra pema yi dap zhé
Make the exquisite lotus of boundless intelligence and insight bloom!
སྒོམ་བྱུང་རིག་པའི་རྩལ་ཁ་རྒྱས་པའི་ཉི་འོད་དེ་གསལ་མཛོད། །
gom jung rigpé tsel kha gyepé nyi ö dé sel dzö
Make the strength of awareness, arisen from meditation, radiate with the brightness of the rising sun!
བདག་ཉིད་བསྐལ་མང་བསོད་ནམས་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་མཐུ་དཔལ་ལས་གྲུབ་པའི། །
daknyi kel mang sönam gyamtsö tu pel lé druppé
Through the splendid power of the ocean of merit, accumulated earnestly through oceans of eons,
རྙེད་དཀའི་དལ་འབྱོར་མི་ལུས་ཐོབ་ནས་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་བསྟན་པ། །
nyé ké deljor milü top né sangyé kyi tenpa
I have attained this human body with its freedoms and riches—this precious human body so hard to attain.
མཇལ་ཞིང་ཁྱད་པར་གསང་སྔགས་ཟབ་དོན་ཚིག་གཅིག་ལ་གྲོལ་བའི། །
jel zhing khyepar sang ngak zap dön tsik chik la drölwé
I have met with the Buddha’s teachings, I have even met the secret mantra—its meaning so profound that a single word of instruction can bring liberation in a single lifetime!
གདམས་པ་འདིར་འཕྲད་ཐོས་བསམ་བསྒོམ་པ་འདི་འདྲ་ཡི་དུས་ཤིག །
dampa dir tré tö sam gompa dindra yi dü shik
Yet, in the face of this, a time for study and reflection, a time for meditation, which can never be regained,
ནམ་དུ་མི་རྙེད་འདི་འདྲའི་དུས་སུ་ལེ་ལོ་ཡི་ཐང་འབྱམས། །
nam du mi nyé dindré dü su lelo yi tang jam
I simply fritter it away, lazy and slothful.
སྙིང་མེད་བདག་ལ་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་ནུས་པས་ད་ལྟ་རང་བྱིན་རློབས། །
nyingmé dak la tukjé nüpé data rang jin lop
Nevertheless, through your compassion so strong, and despite my heartlessness, bless me, I beseech you, without further ado!
མཐའ་མེད་འཁོར་བའི་རྒྱ་མཚོར་བྱིངས་པའི་མ་གྱུར་གྱི་འགྲོ་བ། །
tamé khorwé gyamtsor jingpé magyur gyi drowa
All beings, my mothers, in samsara’s endless ocean, drowning—to free them all, each and every one,
མ་ལུས་བསྒྲལ་ཕྱིར་ཐེག་པ་ཕྱི་ནང་གསང་གསུམ་གྱི་སྒྲོ་འདོགས། །
malü drel chir tekpa chi nang sang sum gyi dro dok
I shall fully resolve the vehicles, outer, inner, and secret!
ཆོད་ནས་དབེན་པའི་རི་ལ་བསྐྱེད་རྫོགས་མཐར་ཕྱིན་དུ་བསྒོམས་ནས། །
chö né wenpé ri la kyedzok tarchin du gom né
I shall fully resolve the vehicles, outer, inner, and secret! I shall then take myself to mountain retreats where I will train to perfection in generation and completion,
རང་དོན་གནད་གསུམ་ལྷ་རུ་བསྣུན་པས་རང་སྣང་རིས་མེད་དུ་གྲོལ་ཏེ། །
rangdön né sum lha ru nünpé rangnang rimé du dröl té
and for my own benefit, manifesting the three crucial points as deities, I will fully liberate self-appearances.
གཞན་དོན་གང་མོས་དེར་སྟོན་སྣང་བ་དཔེ་ཆ་རུ་འཆར་ཞིང་། །
zhendön gang mö der tön nangwa pecha ru char zhing
Then I will teach, for the benefit of others, whatever they desire. Appearances will arise as scripture, and, nourishing the doctrine through explanation,
འཆད་རྩོད་རྩོམ་པས་བསྟན་པའི་གསོས་གྱུར་འགྲོ་བ་རྣམས་ལ་ཕན་གདགས། །
ché tsö tsompé tenpé sö gyur drowa nam la pen dak
through debate and composition, I shall bring benefit to each and every being.
དོན་གཉིས་ལྷུན་གྱིས་གྲུབ་པ་ཞིག་མྱུར་བ་ཉིད་དུ་བགྱིའོ། །
dön nyi lhün gyi druppa zhik nyurwa nyi du gyio
Help me to accomplish this, the twofold benefit, swiftly and spontaneously!
ཞེས་པ་འདིའང་བླ་མ་རབ་འབྱམས་པ་པདྨ་བློ་གྲོས་གྱིས་ཐོས་བསམ་སྒོམ་གསུམ་གྱི་བར་ཆད་བསལ་ཕྱིར་མཆོག་གྱུར་གླིང་པས་བགྱིས་པའོ། །
