by Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa

khyen rap pakpa jampel yang dang nyam

Your wisdom is equal to that of noble Mañjuśrī,

tsewé tukjé chenrezik dang tsung

your loving compassion is like Avalokiteśvara’s.

nüpa sangwé dakpor yermé ching

Your power is indivisible from the Lord of Secrets––

nyingtik ter gyi kabap ledrel tsel

you are the lord with the karmic destiny (Lédrel Tsal) for the transmission of the Heart Essence treasures.2

Longchen Rabjam, I pray at your feet!

Khenpo Pema Lodrö Sangyé Chöpel,3 who is unmatched in the three trainings in these degenerate times, said that there was a need for a prayer like this that could be chanted aloud by the monastic assembly. In response, Chokgyur Lingpa wrote this on the tenth day. May this bring goodness!

Samye Translations, 2023.

  1. The original text is untitled; this title has been added by the translator.
  2. “Lord with the karmic destiny” refers here to Pema Lédrel Tsal (1231/2?-1307?), the immediate reincarnation of Princess Pema Sel to whom Guru Rinpoché had entrusted the transmission of the Heart Essence of the Ḍākinīs in the eighth century. Pema Lédrel Tsal withdrew the terma of the Heart Essence of the Ḍākinīs from its place of concealment at the Daklha Tramo Drak rock in the province of Dakpo, but only partially decoded it during his life. He then transmitted these teachings to his main disciple Gyalsé Lekden. Pema Lédrel Tsal was reincarnated as the Omniscient Longchenpa, who received the whole cycle of the Heart Essence of the Ḍākinīs from Gyalsé Lekden, and by so doing, ensured that the authentic lineage was kept alive.
  3. More commonly known as Khenpo Rinchen Dargyé.
